Dr. Adrian Fox and The Fox Foundation Launches Groundbreaking Ceremony “Pools in Schools” Initiative in The Bahamas
For Immediate Release
Nassau, The Bahamas – June 13, 2024
The Fox Foundation, in partnership with the Ministry of Education and gaming operators Island Luck, Ultra Games, Island Games, Asure Win, and Paradise Games, has officially launched the transformative "Pools in Schools" initiative with a groundbreaking ceremony at Government High School. This historic event marks a significant milestone in the Bahamian education system, as the first public schools in the country will now have access to swimming pools, teaching students vital swimming skills and business acumen to maintain and manage them.
This initiative, which will initially roll out across eight schools, aims to equip Bahamian students with the life-saving skill of swimming while empowering them to become responsible and entrepreneurial members of society. The program teaches not only how to swim but also how to care for and manage pools, fostering a sense of business responsibility and community engagement among students.
The Honorable Dr. Adrian Fox, founder of the Fox Foundation, expressed the importance of supporting the younger generation, stating, “The kids are our future. Without them, we don’t have a future. This initiative will develop them into great adults while teaching them life-saving skills. Pools in Schools is more than just learning to swim—it’s about empowering our youth.”
Adrianna Fox, co-founder of the Fox Foundation, highlighted the broader impact of the program, saying, “This initiative gives students more than just the ability to swim—it provides an opportunity to learn entrepreneurial skills like managing pool maintenance, which can lead to future business opportunities. It’s about equipping our youth for success, both in and out of the water.”
Representing the IL Cares Foundation, Carlo Ramsey, Head of Brand, Events, Loyalty, and Rewards, shared the foundation's pride in being part of this impactful program. “This is what happens when vision meets purpose,” Ramsey said. “We believe every child should have the opportunity to learn how to swim and benefit from water-based opportunities. We are honored to be part of a project that will have a lasting positive impact on our community.”
The Prime Minister of The Bahamas, His Excellency The Honorable Philip Davis, alongside Minister of Education, Glenys Hanna Martin, and other government officials, attended the groundbreaking ceremony, where they reiterated their administration’s commitment to the safety, health, and empowerment of the next generation of Bahamians. Minister Hanna Martin noted that nearly 95% of Bahamians lack basic swimming skills, a glaring gap that this initiative seeks to address in a nation surrounded by water.
The initial phase of the program will benefit eight schools across The Bahamas, with pools strategically placed to serve multiple campuses where necessary. The project, which will take approximately 12 weeks to complete, will see the installation of a 25-meter, six-lane pool at Government High School, with other schools to follow.
This initiative is just the beginning, with the potential for broader implementation across the country. The "Pools in Schools" program represents a shared commitment by the Fox Foundation, its partners, and the Bahamian government to ensure that every child is equipped with essential life skills while fostering community development and future business leaders.
